Questionnaire

My questionnaire designed for people tyo answer to help me create a magazine that will appeal to ther mass of people. My questionnaire is 10 questions long. I took a cross section of people across our school. Eighteen people responded to my questionare; however, despite the fact I expected a few more people to complete it, I was not disappointed with the outcome. The first few questions are asked to see what target audience I should be aiming for and how to design my magazine around them to suit their needs.
Question 1

This is a simple question to see which gender my genre of magazine would appeal to more. It was a equal result which I am happy with as this means more people will buy my magazine, but I need to make it look appealing to both genders for this to happen.

Question 2

This is again designed to see who my target audience is. I know that different magazine covers etc appeal to different age groups so this; along with question 1 is very important.

Question 3

This was a disappointing result for me as I know that not alot of people might not even look at my magazine even if it is coreectly advertised etc. However, one important positive I can draw from this is that I can appeal to the minority of the target audience. This makes it easier for me to allow my magazine to adapt to these 'minorities'.

Question 4

This is a good question to ask as it will allow me to know what colours i should use that will appeal to my target market. The response in genreal was of a stereotypical nature; the majority of people wanted the colours black, red and white.

Question 5

The general feedback on this answer was mixed, but overall people tend to think of bands, instruments, news and tour dates.

Question 6

As you can see, people expect magazines to be quite expensive with the majority of people thinking magazines should be £5 or more. I personally think this is expensive, so I wont be charging my magazine at the higher price as there are also more people that wan
Question 7

This was a disappointing result for me. As you can see the majority of people don't read magazines. This will make it harder for me to make my magazine catch the persons eye.
Question 8

The general response for this was bright colours. I plan to use plain white as my background so this shouldn't be a problem for me.
Question 9

Overall the responses were very orientated with what I was aiming for which is a real boost and contrasts the answers in question 7.
Question 10

The overall response was people saying that the more heavier rock music was not a good image to go for as it puts people off buying my magazine. This was again a positive for me because this was not the aim of my magazine.

Production Log

Today I designed my survey that i will use to ask people to answer so i can get feed back on how to design my magazine. I made it with both closed questions and multiple choice questions to the people who took part in my survey. This way I could get a broader vision of how people think I should structure my magazine. I used closed questions because some answers only need a 'yes' or 'no' answer. At the same time they would use the multiple choice questions I gave them so there would not be people writing things which I completely disagree with.

Music Video Inspiration

Muse - Madness

This music video contains a band - Muse - playing a long with a story line to the magazine. The setting is a very dark and gloomy train station. The aspect of dark and gloomy is typical of a music magazine although the story line is fairly odd but it includes a woman being chased which fits the dark theme. This is the type of theme I am planning to use for my magazine.

Avenged Sevenfold - Hail To The King

This is another music video of a heavier band.

Biffy Clyro - Black Chandelier

These are some of the music videos that inspired my magazine genre and they feature some of the themes I hope to add to my magazine. They are very typical of alternative rock and the kind of songs and bands which would be featured in conventions of magazines.in the same genre as mine

Preliminary Task

Cover Page
The cover page is eye catching mainly because of the pose of the model. It is not very wild or crazy as this magazine is for a school and aims to look professional. The model is dressed in smart clothes giving a clue that is is more targeted towards more the older audience e.g. parents of students.
The model in the image is a sixth former running for the position of head boy. this can give an idea of what the contents of the magazine will be about.
There is information on the outside of the photo on either side of the page. these give the reader some idea of what is inside that issue of the magazine and whether it will appeal to them or not.
The colours on the page are repetitive, highlighting the more important key words or bits of information in yellow. The colour of the writing is constantly blue and yellow because this is the colour of the schools logo. Contrasted with the background of bricks and the plain navy jumper of the model these bits of information stand out.

Contents Page
We can tell it is a contents page because it has a title near the top which is very bold so is extremely eye catching. it again contrasts the background so that is is even more eye catching.
The articles listed in the contents page are divided in to sections with the page numbers and the subject title. The title is bolder and bigger than the subtext so it stands out more as it is the title of that page.
The colours used on the contents page are very neutral. This gives a modern and fresh feel to the magazine. it also gives a professional look as it is not faffing around with stupid colours like pink and purple. The contents page is very eye catching because of the two bold colours I used for the
background and the writing. These are both neutral colours but contrast each other in every aspect.

Production Schedule

This production schedule gives me deadlines for which I will need to finish each part of this magazine like photo planning and creating different pages. For each deadline, there is a date and a description of what I will need to do for each deadline. Also, the creation of my magazine means I have given myself roughly 4 hours of lesson time to make each page, and an equal amount of time at home. Each page is done within one week. After that I have given myself time to reevaluate what I've done.
